Advice for New Players at Carom3D
and Ways to Improve Your Game
To summarize the previous advice, start in the Training Server, not Novice or Free, and practice there until you have 10 wins and can make 3-4 balls in one turn. Play someone with equal or similar skill. Avoid the Free Server until you have experience in Novice. Visit Carom3D for more details using our links, and as you advance, upgrade your equipment.
Your Training Partner - Checking Statistics
You may view a player's win-lose record and percentage from the main lobby, game room lobby, or during a game. From either lobby, click on the player's name to view their statistics, and during a game click ESC and then click on their name. If they have 60% or more win percent, they are not new. It's perfectly acceptable to say "No, thanks. I want to play someone with similar skill, and you are not new".
Why play in Training? You don't lose points, unlike the other servers. Later, winning points will help you level up with new and better cues.
Where You Play - Avoid the Challenge Rooms
It is better to create a new room rather than play in an existing room, especially a challenge room. Making a room, you are the room master, and can control who you play. Challenge games begin automatically before you know if you are playing someone truly new, or an expert. Challenge rooms have a vertical sword icon next to the room type when viewed from the lobby.
Upgrade Your Cue - Use the Scrolls
You receive one free scroll for every 10 wins, and can have a maximum of 5. The scrolls are tokens that you use to play the Carom3D slot machine, and if you get 3-of-a-kind, your cue is upgraded one power level. To view how many scrolls you have, click on your name from the main lobby, and look for the scrolls when your blog opens.
From your blog, click on the tab "Management". On the next screen, click on "Cue Inventory", and then a new window appears showing all the cue sticks you own. As a new player, you may only have one. When you have several, look for the red triangle with the letters "EQ", and that is the cue you currently use for play. Under that click on the button "Remodel", and next select "Remodel Free". NOW the slot machine appears. Click anywhere on the handle, and watch. If you get 3 matching graphics, you WIN and your cue is upgraded in power. If you fail, click "Back to Inventory" and try again.
This is enough to get you started. View our Good Guys page to learn about Admin and other friendly players who can help answer questions. Enjoy Carom3D!
